Oakhanger Play Area
Oakhanger village now has a new play area due to the hard work of the Oakhanger Village Hall committee, supported by the Parish Council.
The project brief was to develop an attractive and exciting play area for Oakhanger on the edge of Shortheath Common next to the Village Green. The previous play facilities, consisting of two swings, were inadequate for the number of children in the village and unsuitable for very young children. They were close to the road and unfenced. A previous RoSPA safety inspection had stated that they “fail to meet the requirement of the relevant standard”.. Approximately half the households have children under 18 and many of the retired villagers have grandchildren visiting regularly.
The playground has been installed further from the road and consists of a multi play tower structure. There are also basket, flat and toddler swings as well as a spinner, bouncy animal and a small trim trail. It is designed to appeal to children across the age ranges and include opportunities for challenging and imaginative play.
Plans of the play area can be found below:

Location of Play Area
Hampshire County Council has signed the lease for the land to the Parish Council. We are seeing many children using the facilities, with some travelling from out of the parish area - news is travelling fast! Why not come down and have a look, and don't forget to bring the kids!
